THE CHIANTI CLASSICO
The wine-growing zone of Chianti was delimited in 1932 by a ministerial decree and since then the boundaries have remained unchanged. The decree defined the production area of Chianti Classico wine as the area of more ancient origin. Even then, the current territory of Chianti was then recognized as an area of original production for the Chianti Classico wine.

Castellina in Chianti

Mentioned for the first time in a sales contract in January 1054, Castellina was part of the Florentine since the twelfth century, but always close to the borders of Siena: and it is precisely because of this position that is often involved in the secular disputes between Florence and Siena. In 1397, Castellina is partially destroyed by the soldiers of Alberico da Barbiano Siena in the pay of a coalition headed by the Visconti of Milan. In 1478, the "castle" instead gives the onslaught of the enemy, led this time by the Aragonese of Naples. With the fall of the Republic of Siena (1555), Castellina loses its importance and its walls are progressively being used as a base for new homes. Given these premises, you will understand the importance carried out by defensive walls, still visible through two remarkable works of military engineering: the Rocca and the Via delle Volte, both inserted in the center. La Rocca, a symbol of Castellina, currently hosting the "Etruscan Museum", the site of important Etruscan artifacts recovered in the area.
